Ranil Sonnadara - Sound Designer

ranil sonnadara is a uk-trained theatrical sound designer and composer. he has won several awards for his work on musicals and plays. originally from the united kingdom, ranil moved to canada in 1998 to pursue research in psychoacoustics and auditory neuroscience and forgot to leave. he has designed and operated sound and music at several producing and touring venues on both sides of the atlantic over a career spanning more than 30 years and 250 production credits.

an experienced educator and researcher, ranil has taught courses on psychoacoustics, composition, lighting and sound design, amongst other things, at the university of leeds, the leeds college of music, university college bretton hall, liverpool hope university and at mcmaster university.

ranil is the creative director of the mcmaster institute for music and the mind’s LIVELab. he is also the director of mcmaster’s performance science lab which explores the art and science of human performance in all its forms, and serves as head of sound design for the stratford festival in his ‘spare time’.
